Potty training

Is your child ready? What supplies do you actually need? Which potty is best? What are regressions? How long does it “normally” take?
In short, potty training requires “training” muscles, including the sphincter muscle, to hold and release. Generally, at about 18-24 months of age, a typically developing child is physically ready to start practicing control over these muscles- which makes sense because the average potty training age around the world is about 18-24 months! (But the United States has some of the oldest diapered children with the average potty training age at around 3.5 years old.)
Please note that:
-Full day packages always occur on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Additional days and hours are an option at a prorated cost.
-The majority of the time, I will be the only adult present. (Working from home? That's ok! You just need to be out of earshot and view.)
-There will never be punishments, bribes, or guilting in the process.

Please also plan ahead and prepare to have a "slow" 2 weeks with no novelty or big life changes (like starting school, traveling, or welcoming a new baby). Also, if necessary, please double check with your building's maintenance schedule to ensure that running water is available while we potty train.
  • With a mini, you will need to share some photos of your home and answer a few questions about your child and the potty first. Then, I will share a detailed and customized potty training plan, details on how to troubleshoot and what to expect, how to prep your home, and a list of recommended items to purchase. You can expect this info to be emailed to you within 2 business days. About 1 week after starting potty training, a 45 min follow up call is included to check on progress.

*If you’ve purchased a mini and would like to upgrade to a full day package later on, 50% of the cost of this mini can be deducted from the cost of the upgraded package.

  • With a full day package, I offer hands on support for 8 hours a day, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This allows parents to tag team the slightly "easier" days over the weekend and maintain consistency. This package also includes the mini! Need more than 8 hours a day? Just ask!

In my opinion, there is no such thing as a 3 day method. I don't know anyone who can master a skill and an entire muscle group in 3 days. I will say though, that the hardest and messiest days are the first 3-4 days- but you're by no means "done" with potty training!

Ask me about these other challenges!

Attachment and anxiousness

Ambiversion and introversion is totally normal, but we can still gently teach healthy attachment and how to calm our nerves in new settings.

Whining

Your child is trying to communicate with you but whining does not have to be the method of choice!

Picky Eating

It’s not uncommon for kids to have preferences but generally, a colorful and diverse plate is a healthy plate. Let’s embrace and encourage it!

Tantrums

Tantrums are a normal part of growing but we can figure out what the triggers are to minimize them on a day-to-day.

Routines

Children (and adults) need it! Let’s find a way to organize the day or shorten that 2 hour long bedtime routine.

Everything else

Table manners? High sensitivity? Difficulty leaving the park? Nursery/play area essentials? Adjusting to a new baby? Power struggles?

This space is yours. Let’s talk it through with a little bit of levity.
